Jasmine and Hannah

12 10th, 2007

A little over a week ago I had a huge breakthrough with two of the dogs that I have been working on, Jasmine and Hannah.  Each girl has her own unique personality and quirks so we’ve been working on addressing them.  I am extremely happy to report that they have both fully embraced the acupressure massage and last week melted into the floor for a full session each.

Hannah is the German Sheppard mix who I found a year and a half ago wandering around the streets of the Northern San Fernando Valley as a big puppy.  My friend Phyllis has a soft spot for Sheppards and needless-to-say failed her foster duties as she adopted Hannah permanently.  Since then “banana-head” has been diagnosed with elbow dysplasia and we have realized that she has the attention span of a hummingbird.  During the first two sessions she seemed to enjoy the one on one time, but more as an individualized play session.  She let me do an acupressure assessment and a few points but then she lost interest.  She would play a bit and then come back for a short massage and she was off again.  This last session was very different.  I walked in and sat on the floor and the minute I put one hand on her she laid down flat on her side and proceeded to stay there for 45 minutes!  I did the full acupressure assessment and acupressure massage treatment and was greeted with huge releases from her.

Jasmine is a beautiful white German Sheppard.  She was rescued by Phyllis two years ago from a very abusive home.  The result of that abuse is an incredibly fearful dog with a heart of gold.  Sometimes she gets so scared she even emits a sour odor.  During the first session I had her in the room with me while I was working on Hannah and just let her see who I was and what I was doing.  She came up and smelled me and licked my face a bit but then she would shy away.  Both her mom and I thought that was a huge step for her.  The next session she approached me on her own terms and allowed me to do an acupressure assessment but that was all her comfort level would allow.  This last time I worked on her she laid down in front of me on her own and let me work on her for a full 40 minutes.  It was wonderful to feel the releases coming from her and her tissues and to witness how her body language changed.

I love my work and I am so grateful to our animal friends that teach me everyday!
